Autumn in Black and White

"And if a day goes by without my doing something related to photography, it's as though I've neglected something essential to my existence, as though I had forgotten to wake up. I know that the accident of my being a photographer has made my life possible." - Richard Avedon

I saw this quote today and just loved it.

I'm still working through some fall images, but have more ideas and work to do in my self portrait series, so I hope to work on that in the coming weeks.  Of course I had to take some black and white images too, even though the leaves were beautiful and colourful, there's always a place for some black and white...

  2. "Autumn in Black and White" is such a cool concept. I love the first shot. It's weird, but it kind of makes me think of some black & white World War II movie, with the spiky leaves forming a sort of barbed wire fence, with a big, oppressive government building in the background. I'm insane; just go with it! ;-)

I'm not that crazy though about the second photo unless the motion blur was an attempt to portray the leaf as falling. Also, the cropping when it comes to the blackspace outside the photo-circle could be more uniform. In my opinion, show the complete black negative space around the circle, or completely crop out the circle. That's just my opinion. I do find it interesting though, that, having looked at old photos, I realized, photos originally were circular, which makes sense, since the lens is too. It's only later on, that cameras have decided to crop the original down to rectangular proportions. If I ruled the world, the standard aspect ratio would be a perfect square. Then portrait vs. landscape would NOT be an issue.
